Maeven asked:
I’ve been hanging out with this guy since October. We get along really well, have a lot in common, and (obviously I guess) both like each other. However, much as I would like to further this relationship and “officially” date him, I’m afraid it might be a really bad idea. I’m a sophomore. He’s a junior. We go to totally different schools. If we were to date, how long could it possibly last? I mean, he’s off to college in a little over a year, I am in two, and it’s highly doubtful we’d go to the same one. Which is why I ask myself, what’s the point? How can it be worth it to date in high school if it’s almost guaranteed not to last? It’s letting yourself get emotionally attached to someone only to completely crush everything. So my question is… is it better to disregard all of that and give dating a shot, or is it best to end this now?

From Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem In Memoriam:27, 1850:
I hold it true, whate’er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
‘Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

Think of all the people out there involved into a long distance relationship (like me). Go for it if you really like him.
Good luck. ^^

You sound smart. I think, you should remain as is now, and keep intouch for years to come..if it was meant to be, you will meet again.

It is better to love and lost then to never have loved at all. Go for it girl, you never know, he might be the one for you. So what if he is going off to college soon. You have to take the chance for love when it comes to you, it might not come around again for a long time.

I’d agree with Mikey except it depends on how strong you are emotionally. If you can handle it, and grow with it, and accept it for what it is and cherish it, YES. But if it’s going to cause to walk around in your final year as a sad sack all year, and possibly affect your grades, and not just your love life, the NO! You know yourself better. If it were me,,,YESSSSSSSS!!!!

I am a senior, and I used to think exactly that when I was in my first few years in high school. Personally, I plan on waiting until university, because it just seems more worth my time. I’ve had a relationship end because of moving, and it’s pretty disheartening.
